Nicolas G. Bazan, M.D., Ph.D. is the Director of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Neuroscience Center of Excellence (New Orleans), as well as Professor of Ophthalmology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Neurology. The Center bridges basic neurobiology with clinical neuroscience through multidisciplinary research in several areas including stroke, trauma, spinal cord injury, depression, epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, age-related macular degeneration and Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Bazan received his M.D. from the University of Tucuman (1965), Argentina, then was a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and Harvard Medical School (1965-68). He has received numerous awards including corresponding membership in the Royal Academies of Sciences and Medicine (Spain) and the Jacob Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Health in 1989.

His major interest is understanding the significance of signal transduction pathways that modulate gene expression in terms of survival/plasticity/death in neurons, as they occur in stroke, epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Bazan has international renown for his pioneering studies on the release of lipid messengers in brain ischemia, trauma, and seizures.

Dr. Mark Fernando Tweedie Spadoni joined the Faculty of Medicine at the Lutheran University of Brazil in Rio Grande do Sul in 1996. In 2004, he joined the neurosurgery residency at Santa Monica Clinic, a service accredited by the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery and the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies in the city of Goiânia under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Jose Edison da Silva Cavalcante. In 2007, he joined NRI - Interventional Neuroradiology, where he received training from Dr. Elias Fouad Rabahi techniques in diagnostic neuroradiology and therapy. He remained until the end of 2009, when he concluded the 2-year training recommended by SBNRDT - Brazilian Society of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Neuroradiology. He performed a Clinical Observer at one of the largest neurosurgery departments in the United States, the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI), co-authored by Prof Robert Spetzler in 2007. He is head of the Neurosurgery Service of the Emergency Hospital of Goiânia - HUGO and Coordinator of the Neurovascular Unit of Encore.

Stroke, Endovascular Neurosurger, Mechanical Tormbectomy and Brain Aneurysm

Dr. Pant received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Agra University, Agra, India. His postdoctoral studies were conducted on the mechanisms of electron and ion transport in model membrane systems at the Department of Biophysics at Michigan State University. He joined the Laboratory of Neurobiology in the NIMH as a senior staff fellow in 1974 with Dr. Ichiji Tasaki where he studied the function of the axonal cytoskeleton in the squid giant axon. In 1979 he moved to the NIAAA extending his studies on the neuronal cytoskeleton and the effects of alcohol on its regulation. Dr. Pant moved to the NINDS, Laboratory of Neurochemistry in 1987 where he is presently chief of the section on Cytoskeleton Regulation. His laboratory is studying the mechanisms of topographic regulation of neuronal cytoskeleton proteins by post-translational modification, including the role of kinase cascades in normal brain and during neurodegeneration.

He completed MBBCH with honors on Nov 1982 and completed Master of General Surgery in 1987.He did fellowship in the department of Neurosurgery in 1994.He did doctorate degree in Neurological surgery in 1994 and became the member of congress of American Neurological Surgeons on 2000. He worked as the House officer in Ministry of Health Hospital and Alexandria university Hospital for one year from 1983 to 1984.He worked as physician in the Ministry of Health Hospitals from 1984 to 1987.He served as Registrar of Neurosurgery in private hospital from 1987 to 1988.He served as Assistant lecturer of Neurosurgical department of Alexandria University Hospitals from 1988 to 1994.He was a chief consultant of Neurosurgery in Saqr Hospital, UAE from 2000 to 2003. He is working as Professor of Neurosurgery department at Alexandria University from 2010 to till date.

Neurology , Neurosurgery and skull base surgery

Saleem Abdulrauf, MD, is a physician specializing in neurosurgery in St. Louis, Missouri, who has helped develop high-flow brain bypass surgery, a procedure for treating intracranial aneurysm,a less-invasive procedure than traditional methods. He is Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. Abdulrauf has served on the boards of multiple neurosurgical societies, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the World Federation of Skull Base Societies (WFSBS)
